Retro Party Glass

Glass art is an innovative way to create eye catching art that can be used in everyday life. Glass art involves the fusing of glass sheets to create plates, bowls, serving dishes, and everything glass. It involves very careful use of glass and kiln work to create these magnificent pieces, so not just every common person could sit down and create a piece.

I was having a themed dinner party that required more than a trip down to the store to pick up paper plates imprinted with the theme of the evening. I needed to acquire plates and bowls that had an obscure look. It was a retro dinner party that was dating back to the 1940’s and 1950’s. The colors of the party were olive green and burnt orange with the classic deco appeal. Thus the search began to find elegant yet classic looking serveware that could be used for this dinner party. I had heard about glass art and thought maybe if I searched for a glass fuser in my area that I might find one via the internet. I Googled and found a glass fuser that would make custom pieces. I spoke with the artist and finally got exactly what I was looking for. It took time for the artist to create my serveware for the dinner party, but they were perfect and could be used over and over for years to come. Glass fused art is hand washable or dish washer safe. I got to choose the perfect colors for the party and had many of the guests comment on how eye catching the plates were.

Now that the dinner party ended, I can use these glass plates for hangable art for the walls in my home or use them as spectacular coffee table art. The glass fuser did an excellent job and I will be using their services again in the future.

Birthday Party Magic

Congratulations! Your son or daughter is about to celebrate another birthday. How are you going to celebrate it? Today’s children have a lot more structured activities than we had when were growing up. Your child’s birthday party is no exception. To make sure the party is safe, fun and memorable, follow these tips.
As long as the party space is checked for child-safety and adequate seating, you can have a birthday party almost anywhere. While some towns have children’s party places you may want to avoid them. Sure, they offer lots of space but many children are bored by party rooms. After they attended a few parties there, they no longer look forward to going back. This is because many party rooms simply let the kids run around wild on rides. That’s fine for the more aggressive kids, but party rooms seem to intimidate some more introverted children.
If you’re going to hold the party at home, be sure to inspect every accessible area to make sure the entire space is child-safe. While you’re child may be out of the dangerous toddler stage, all of your tiny guests may not.
Backyard birthday parties are a load of fun. Be sure to provide plenty of shade for those hot days and remember, always have a back up plan. Have a rain plan.
Keep your guest list manageable. If you’re child is very young and your inviting his or her friends, be sure to invite their parents to stay too. In fact, you need to insist that any very young children be fully attended by their own parents. You’ll be too busy running around the party to play babysitter to other people’s kids.
When it comes to food and beverage, realize that so many young children are fussy eaters. Don’t worry about providing a full three-course meal! The kids are too excited to eat. In addition, by limiting the variety of foods you serve you make it easier for children with food allergies. Stay away from any of the big food-allergy groups likes peanuts and shellfish. Be sure that parents of children with allergies let you know of any special needs and ask them to remain at the party to make sure their child stays safe.
Be sure to have plenty of activities to keep the children amused. One of the best birthday party entertainment ideas is a live magic show. Hire a great children’s magician to keep the kids happy and amused. A good show will have lots of audience participation, a variety of tricks and plenty of silly jokes and gags.
The magic show should start after the meal is served and the children are settled into the party environment. It is important to give kids enough time calm down before the show begins. At the start of the party, children are very excited to see each other and their attention span is low. Once they’ve gotten a chance to chat with their friends, checked out the party room and had a nice low-sugar meal or snack, it’s show time.
How long should a magic show be? If the audience is mostly very young children, keep the show short and sweet. Older kids have a better attention span and will enjoy a show for up to an hour. After the hour, no matter how wonderful the magician is, the kids will want to get up and move. This is especially true if you are holding the party in a high-distraction area like a game room or by a swimming pool. A show that lasts 90 minutes and boors is not as good as a 30-minute show that delights. When it comes to party entertainment, sometimes less is more.
Remember, magic shows are not “just for kids.” Teenagers love to watch magic too. It’s a fun way to entertain them at a Bar Mitzvah or Sweet Sixteen. For these parties we recommend a walk-around magician. Instead of stopping the music and dancing to watch a show, have the magician stroll around the party performing sleight of hand table to table.

Birthday Parties

Everybody loves a good party. Parties are occasions where people gather together for socialization or recreation. A party is a light-hearted occasion that brings together friends, family members, colleagues, and acquaintances. A great party will usually feature food and beverages, and oftentimes, music and dancing as well. Some parties are held in honor of a specific person, day, or event.

One ubiquitous celebration is the birthday party. A birthday is a day when a person celebrates his or her day of birth. The traditional western birthday, especially for children and teenagers, features cakes, candles, balloons, streamers, ice cream, and gifts. The birthday cake is served with lit candles. The celebrants and the guests will then sing “Happy Birthday” or, more rarely, ”For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”.

Birthdays for young adults in the western world tend to emphasize partying: music, dancing, food, liquor, and socializing. Different cultures and religious groups have their own birthday traditions. The bar mitzvah is a Jewish rite of passage for boys on their 13th birthday.

In Hinduism, a celebrant’s 12th or 13th birthday is celebrated with a grand thread ceremony.

Many major religions celebrate the birth of their deities or founders such as Buddha’s Birthday in Buddhist Cultures and Christmas in some Christian countries. Birthday celebrations and galas on a grand scale are often held in outdoor gardens or lawns inside large tents or marquees. Birthday celebrants can make their parties more memorable by hiring companies that provide services for tent rentals.

Modern party marquees and tent rentals offered by many tent rental companies are made of durable materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyethylene. Marquees and party tents are often beautifully decorated and come in different styles and colors. This versatility allows party planners to create tent interiors that can be either elegant or festive, depending on the nature of the birthday celebration. Party tents often require specialized equipment and skill to erect.

tent rentals companies use tensioned ratchets or stakes to hold down marquees and party tents. For pool parties, garden parties, and children’s birthdays, aluminum frame marquees are more appropriate. Aluminum frame marquees have no center poles or guy ropes and can be erected on any stable surface next to adjacent buildings or other tents. Aluminum frame marquees can be spread over pool areas, gardens, or trees.

Hawaiian Luau Parties

Aloooooooohaaaa! Ok, that’s lame, but your party won’t be with these Hawaiian luau party themes!

As with most theme parties, you’ll need a decent-sized room or backyard, or you can rent a party room. These themes, weather permitting, definitely would be great in an outdoor setting (especially if you have a pool). Also, these kinds are parties are popular in the winter to help people “think warm!”

One creative idea for a Hawaiian luau party invitation is to make fake flight tickets, arrival destination at Maui, Oahu, or one of the other islands on the date and time of the party. Other imagery that could be used includes beaches, Tiki, palm trees, Coconuts/Pineapples, hula dancers, etc. You could create a “Special Luau” flyer for a special party (birthday, anniversary…).

Other options for your Hawaiian luau party are to get tropical looking blank invitations or paper and print them on your computer, or to buy fill-in-the-blank invitations.

As far as dress, luau party themes call for grass skirts, leis, beach hats, coconut bikini tops, Hawaiian shirts, bright floral prints, etc. Be sure to note on the invitation if you expect your guests to dress up.

Favors (or game/door prizes) for your Hawaiian luau party guests can include palm tree shaped votive candles, a toucan candle, shell necklaces, leis (traditional and floral, even light-up ones!), hula girls and guys, poi or other Hawaiian dish samples, and any other small gift that is Hawaiian.

There are LOTS of decorations and favors for Hawaiian luau parties. Here are some ideas:

* Cover a wall with a Hawaiian mural

* Tan and blue balloons scattered about (beach colors) or tropical floral colors like yellow, pink, purple, green.

* Use any of several kinds of palm trees, parrots, tropical fish, and suns (inflatable, metallic, paper, tissue, lighted strings or otherwise). You can also have hula girl decorations, pineapple and other fruit displays, and tiki/totem pole decorations (and tableware).

* Exotic flowers (real or silk) or luau, hula, or tiki candle holders or luminaries can be table centerpieces or accents anywhere in your party area.

* Grass skirting on the tables is a neat touch too. If you really want to go all out, you can get a grass tiki “hut” and use it as the bar or other serving area.

* Don’t forget to have luau or Tiki-themed tableware and napkins in bright colors, mix and match bright luau solid colors, or even shell-shaped plates and coconut cups!

* I personally love the Tiki look. Take a look at some of the luau (and Tiki) decorations that are available at Shindigz. They have decorative masks, flaming Tiki head, Tiki nut cups, even a Tiki Tower (totem pole) and “entrance!” CherylMakesParties has several luau tableware sets to choose from, including a very colorful Tiki set. They also have Tiki citranella candles, lights and invitations. And for favors, there are even Tiki bobbleheads!

Whenever I think of Hawaiian food, I think of pineapples and pork. Have a pork roast, if possible, and if not, have Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs as a main dish. Other Hawaiian delights could be: Ham with pineapple glaze, Lomi Lomi Salmon, Huli-Huli Chicken (Hawaii’s version of barbequed chicken), pineapple/fruit salad, Kalua Pork, Chicken Long Rice, Pacific Rim Beef Salad with Ginger Sesame Dressing, Ahi or Fried Poke, steamed dumplings, egg rolls, Hawaiian sandwiches, potato crab salad, wontons, and volcano shrimp dip.

Hawaiian luau party desserts could include Pineapple Haupia, coconut cream pie, macademia nut cookies, banana bread, pineapple coconut bars, and other Hawaiian-related treats!

Don’t forget tropical drinks for Hawaiian luau party themes! Be sure to have fruit punch (Pacific Punch), along with drinks like Blue Hawaiians, After Luaus, Pina Coladas and Daiquiris (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Include the basics like Kona coffee, beer, soda, iced tea, and wine. Get drink recipes at DrinkNation. Search on tropical, rum, beach, and similar terms.

If it’s a birthday or other celebration, you’ll need a cake. Or you might just want a cake as a dessert item. With a Hawaiian luau party, I’d go with coconut or pineapple upside down cake! Or you might want a round or sheet cake decorated with hula dancers, palm trees, a map of the Hawaiian islands, exotic flowers (with a lei around it!), etc.

Have a hula dance contest and do the limbo!

Have a Don Ho impersonator or hula dancers do a performance, or have your guests give karaoke or hula dancing a try. Regardless, you’ll need Hawaiian music.
